Homer Smith (1896-) was born in Illinois. His father's family were builders and his mother's family were farmers; he was an architect and a farmer. In 1957, he established a homestead on the Kenai Peninsula. His experiences there prompted him to write two books on the difficulties of horticulture in the 49th state.
